About the work
A decorative plate from Ilsée, Princesse de Tripoli: a delicate composition of a medieval princess surrounded by flowing ornament, framed by Mucha’s characteristic borders and soft, muted colour.
History
Ilsée, Princesse de Tripoli is a romance by Robert de Flers, published in Paris in 1897 illustrated throughout with colour lithographs by Alphonse Mucha. It is one of the most ambitious book projects of Mucha’s Paris years and a rare chance to see his poster style at an intimate scale. The plates are in the public domain.
In your home
Its quiet palette and fine detail suit bedrooms, studies and smaller walls, and it works well hung at eye level where the linework can be seen up close.
